ACTS 13-14
This week there are two options for studying Acts. The questions below cover chapters 13 and 14. If you are meeting with your missional family we have also included a service sample for your time together. You can download it above. We’ve also highlighted a few questions that would be geared towards discussion with children.
Begin by reading these passages Acts 13:1-5, 44-49; 14:1, 19-23.
In Acts 13:1-3 we read about how the Holy Spirit called Barnabas and Paul to a specific task. Has the Holy Spirit called you to something specific? How were you able to discern this?
How can a wrong focus lead to jealousy, disunity, and divisiveness? Read Acts 5:17 and 13:45. (include children)
Earlier in Acts, Stephen was stoned to death. Later Paul & Barnabas were able to leave Antioch unharmed (13:49-52). They also escaped stoning (14:4-7). Then in 14:19,20 they were stoned before leaving the next day. How does one discern when to keep sharing the truth and when to leave? Why are believers sometimes able to escape persecution and other times not?
The custom during this time was to give learned men the opportunity to speak to the people during the Sabbath meeting at the synagogue. Why did Paul and Barnabas always go to the town synagogue first?
Acts 14:16-17 What kinds of things has God put in place around us as a testimony of himself? Take some time to list some of these gracious gifts that we may tend to overlook acknowledging as from him. (include children)
In what ways did Paul and Barnabas encourage the disciples in Lystra, Iconium and Antioch (14:21-28)? How can we practically follow their example to encourage and strengthen one another?
